Kawaii Wallpaper

And now I’m back from Japan! Actually since last Tuesday, but I had a pretty hectic week unpacking, settling in and catching up on stuff I had left off before my two-week trip there. The promise to create a Procreate-designed travel poster at every country I visit still stands, but for me, the trip to Tokyo was for personal reasons and not a vacation per se. After all the inspiration I had gained from my “Tokyo Doodles” during my stay there though, how about promotional poster featuring Kawaii Tokyo? And so I started with creating my background wallpaper and developing my ideas through:

Now here is a good start: Just a simple Procreate doodle featuring Hello Kitty, bunny, teddy bear and flower with some Gouache brushes. It was important that the four characters be perfectly aligned corner to corner, where the Snapping technique came handy. After taking a leaf from the Azuelos Portugese tile design idea, I then created recurring patterns as per the From Tile to Textile blog by repeatedly duplicating the drawing over and over again making sure the drawings were aligned correctly with the Snapping technique. So much fun that was coming up with various pattern sizes that I created a cute compilation with the Pic Collage app!

And now, the next step is to decide which size would be most appropriate for my Kawaii Tokyo poster. Got a range to decide from, and what is so cool about this is that I can also use my own creation as wallpaper for my phone! Now I am excited about developing my poster…
