Today we decided to take a day off driving and give our cars a break. Off on a boat ride to Sardinia for the day with our group and what a blast that was! It was an hour or so of sailing in a small jet boat and stopping in the middle of the Bonifacio Strait on the Mediterranean Sea. And what a beautiful sight that was of the turquoise blue water and the pile of big beige rocks! And so i got my small sketchbook out and sketched away with my black Staedtler marker.
First View
This first one was during our first swimming and snorkeling break. I was very impressed with all the small angular formations of the rocks all randomly piled on top of one another. Introducing that sailboat was not a smart move but after having added more rocks behind, the composition turned out for the better!
Second One
During our second break, I noticed another sort of rock formation, this time much larger rocks and more square and cubic in shape compared to the sharp triangular forms in the previous scene. Developed a bit more confidence with sketching this time although not perfect. I just need to keep practicing!
And now the next step. To fill them in with color or not? Actually, , I kind of like the way they look as is. Perhaps I’ll get around to coloring them in the next few days Or why not even start again and sketch the rocks with watercolor!
