So off we are on our roadtrip to Corsica! Just stopping over a few places along the way, and one of them is Lugano, a beautiful lake city in Switzerland just near the Italian border. I do recall traveling there previously with my mother when I was a teenager, but alas remember very little of it as we were on an intensive city-hopping tour. Upon returning there though, I did notice how beautifully autumnal the Alpine mountains were becoming with all the reds and oranges scattered about. That stayed in my mind the entire day, and as soon as we hit the hotel, out came my sketchbook!
And here I was sitting by the poolside with my small Strathmore Visual Journal for Watercolors and my traveling set of Kuretake SAI Japanese Traditional Colors aquarelle markers. The lake was not very visible from there so I had to improvise, recalling the pretty turquoise shade of the water. But we had the stunning view of the mountains! Very autumnal indeed but I also noticed how built-up it all was compared to the Swiss Alps. Still, the buildings were not ugly concrete blocks but picturesque stone houses and monuments with trees in between. Worth painting about too I thought. And of course, don’t forget to include us in the picture too haha!
So just a quick and fun watercolor session with no initial pencil sketching needed. First a rough drawing with the aquarelle markers and then adding details before spreading the colors out with a wet brush. A great way to sketch about whilst traveling. Can’t wait to do more during this vacation!
