Grüezi from the Swiss Alps! We left yesterday afternoon for an almost-fortnight road trip to Switzerland. After the busy trip to Japan in the heat of the summer followed by a second bout of heatwave in the Netherlands, we felt some fresh mountain air could do us some good! And on Day 2 we arrived in Lauterbrunnen near the famous Jungfrau Joch and before checking into our hotel, we had some lunch and time to kill. We were quite lucky to have a seat overlooking a beautiful view of the mountains, and I was itching to make a quick sketch on my mini Visual Journal sketchbook whilst sitting in the restaurant terrace.
The beauty of the area is that we can spot some waterfalls. Lots of them in fact. Lauterbrunnen is renowned for waterfalls, and we were told there are 72 of them scattered about. And hence this sketch! Here I used my SAI Akashiya Traditional Japanese Colors waterbrush pens I had purchased in Japan during my last trip. Colors were directly applied over a rough pencil sketch. I started with short stipling strokes with the intention to spread the color out with a wet brush but I liked the effect of it so much that I thought I’d leave it.
And what an inspiring and even relaxing session that was! Plus the results came out unexpectedly rather well. Even slightly van Gogh-esque, I must add! As we get to view more amazing landscapes as well as a variety of flora and fauna during this break, all the more exciting getting creative and developing my ideas. Looking forward to that!
