It’s the Soccer World Cup in the U.S. this year! Also known as “football” in Europe and Latin America, this sport is not really my thing except when it is a worldwide event and my own country, Japan, is involved. What is even more exciting now is that in a few hours, Japan will play the Netherlands, my home for over 15 years! At this point, it is not easy to choose whom I should support. Japan? Netherlands? I of course, will choose Japan first, as it is my heritage and the country I was born and raised in by my Japanese mother and still feel attached to. But then if the Netherlands wins, I will be happy as well and gladly celebrate the victory with my Dutch friends!

And naturally, I decided to get a bit creative! Last night I began a quick and easy Procreate painting of me and my Dutch partner. Me in a Japan team football jersey clutching the Japanese flag, and him in the Netherlands jersey holding the Dutch flag! How adorable is that. I had a lot of fun working on this despite it being a last-minute decision. And the challenge of course, was figuring out how a soccer ball looks like and trying to get the footbal logos of both countires as accurate as possible. Not perfect, but hey you get the jist. And how super-cute we look, supporting different teams but still united with love!
And now, がんぱれ、日本! (Go, Japan!) but also “Hup Holland Hup“!
