I love recreating! Instead of using an artist’s palette, I just use a page from a sketchbook or piece of art-quality paper. It is on where I squeeze out paint from tubes, mix colors, test them out or spread out any excess. That same paper is used over a number of times till it’s covered in layers of paint or ink. And what interesting color combinations and textures we get!

Then I cover up with bits of collage paper any areas I am not keen on. Here, Lokti paper, origami paper, wrapping paper and Japanese newspaper were glued on with matte medium. I also doodled some dots and lines with a white pen on the larger painted areas. Hence more layers created. Now we’re ready to start with painting my subject!

I went for negative space this time. How about some flowers in a pot? Since I liked how the bottom part of the page turned out I was reluctant to paint over it and hence decided on a pot or a vase. Now that’s a good start! The rest just followed as Sap Green was chosen as background. How beautifully that worked out!

As you may notice, more was added to enhance the painting. For instance, I painted the center of two of the buds on the top left i’m fluorescent red and gold. Some of the white areas in the flowers were filled in, as were areas I wanted to cover up. Finally the stems were pained with yellow-green 3D Liner. Now we’re talking! Here is what I used for this final phase:

Very happy with how this piece turned out! And what a pleasure it was to go back to some abstract painting for a change. Always good to create something different from time to time, isn’t it? Looking forward to recreating again and churning out more paintings with interesting results.
