Great to be coming back to mixed media painting! I also enjoy working intuitively as it further develops my imagination. Here I started with a page of random paint, inks, ghost stencil imprints and collage paper I came across in my Strathmore Mixed Media sketchbook. Not sure how long ago this was done, but surely many years ago! All this time, I kept thinking to myself to work further on it but had not any inspiration yet. And somehow, years later out of the blue, it all came together!
Inspired by Kaiju
It all began when I spotted, on the top left-hand side of the page, a bit of the tissue gift paper from having ordered Tokidoki merchandise. The highlight was one of the characters, Kaiju, that little cute dinosaur! Incidentally, Kaiju is Japanese for monster: Too cute to be scary though! So let’s start from that, I thought. The light green stencil imprint in the middle could be developed into an animal rather than a human character, I figured. Plus, there is quite a lot of potential for creating negative space shapes! And now the fun begins…

Out Comes the Bunny!
With the position of Kaiju on top of the page, the first thing that came to mind was painting a cute bunny because of its long ears. She would have a tattoo of this character too! A negative space image of one was firstly created, so as to let Kaiju show through on her right ear before painting the rest of her white. It worked rather well, I must say! Next step was more negative space shapes with big flower petals and even her dress! And now the rest followed with glitter glue and origami cut-outs of flowers. So happy how it all turned out!

Art Supplies Used
And here is what I developed this cute painting with. Acrylic was the main medium, my favorites being from Golden and Ara. A combination of pink and pearlescent turquoise acrylic ink was used for the bunny’s pretty dress. And then the painting was finally embellished with glitter.

And how cute did my bunny turn out! Love the long ears and huge green eyes. The dress is so pretty and colorful too! Plus the Kaiju tattoo is perfect for this occasion. According to Bunny, she enjoys her new trend and is happy that it deters all the dangerous wolves from attacking her!
