The wonderful workshop in Portugal has sadly come to an end. And what a revelation it was! Within the short span of a week, I felt I’ve developed so much creatively, learning new things everyday and discovering what I was capable of painting but never dared tried. Too stuck in my own comfort zone of course. And on the afternoon before the last day, we were given an assignment: To paint flowers!
Gaining confidence
And with which medium? Gouache! That was another type of paint I’ve seldom been using until I attended the workshop to learn the ropes and gain more experience with it. And painting from scratch too! Well almost. We begin with drawing our desired vase. Then paint the background, followed by the vase and finally the flowers. I must admit I did cheat a bit and made a loose pencil sketch just to get the composition and proportions right.

And here it is: My beautiful flowers in a cute pot! It was drawn from imagination although we did have a vase of flowers on the teacher’s desk as reference point. I am very pleased with the outcome and even amazed at myself. A pity we ran out of time to paint another one. But I’m definitely up for more once I get home especially since we live in Holland, the land of colorful flowere. Can’t wait to start!
