Still in Switzerland and loving every moment of it! Three nights were spent at this lovely lodge on the Gemmi pass, with an altitude of about 2350 meters. In the daytime we’d enjoy long hikes around the lodge. Decided though one afternoon to bring some of my art supplies with me and paint just outside the lodge whilst my partner was busy photographing birds.
And here is my first attempt at watercolor landscape painting without resorting to a pencil sketch! It’s the view of the mountains from where we had hiked earlier that day. There we explored a lake called Daubensee which was very beautiful though sad to see it drying up due to climate change. Once again, I used SAI Japanese Traditional Colors watercolor markers, firstly sketching and spreading the colors out with a wet brush. It was my first attempt too to paint on Strathmore’s mini watercolor sketchbook, and I love that the paper is cold-pressed this time.
Not bad for the first time directly painting landscape with watercolor, I must say! Well, I did start with the watercolor markers and worked my way around with a wet brush. Perhaps my next step would be to paint directly with brushes and see how I get on. Looking forward to the challenge!
