Wooden Doll

The mini me is back! It’s been a while since I’ve sketched in charcoal, chalk and conté sticks. So wonderful to go back to it, as it helps me to understand and focus better on shadows and highlights. My attempt for the first time in months, I decided to draw from my imagination. That said, I should like to practise a bit more on this technique!

Used a tan-toned paper for this and drew away firstly with black charcoal and then highlighted areas with white chalk. The round collar was also in white. Then I used some dark brown conté sticks for the dress and parts of the hair. Not exactly a strict black and white sketch but I thought I’d try and see what the brown would do.

Glad to have also chosen a kawaii subject to draw as it’s always fun and a pleasure to add some cuteness in my work!
