Tea Plantation

On our second day in Japan we went to visit the green tea plantation in Wazuka which is quite near Kyoto. A little pen sketch I did during my train ride to Hokkaido. Got quite inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s work with all her polka dots and for fun incorporated them into my drawing!

You might be asking, what are those dark grey parts on the side? They are tea bushes being covered with black material to protect the leaves from the sun just a few days before picking. Apparently makes the green tea taste less astringent and hence sweeter. I tasted some and it’s wonderful! Even bought a packet of one to take back to Holland….
