How cute, our Ginger cat now has a new friend! Meet Mopsy, the cute little neighborhood bunny found hopping around the garden. Love it! At first, Mopsy was a bit afraid because some cats can be quite aggressive but not Ginger! She is a gentle little tabby we all adore because she’s such a sweetie. It wasn’t long before Mopsy warmed up to her new feline friend, and now they love hanging out together. And of course I had to paint about their happy little encounter!
This was a perfect time to get back to some dry media, including pastels! Having recently bought a set of newly-released 2025 Edition PanPastels, I was very keen to give it a go. These come in 53 new colors in addition to the existing 80. Of course I was not able to test every single color, but I now have more intensive to practice further with a wider range of choices available. The initial outlines and fine details in the end were done with Derwent’s pastel pencils. For paper, I went for Clairfontaine’s Pastel Mat.
Mind you, I’m a bit rusty since it’s been a while using PanPastels, but the more practice the better. Shading techniques are quite a challenge for me in any medium, although I have to admit I mastered it rather well with Mopsy. What I love about working with pastels is the color intensity and velvety texture. Painting with PanPastels further helps because they are less messy to work with than blocks. I look forward to practicing more with this amazing medium and, of course, painting more about Ginger and Mopsy!
