To Buy or Not to Buy?

That is the question! We have considered buying property in Switzerland mainly because my partner suffers from chronic bronchitis and finds the mountain air helps. Over here in the Netherlands, it is virtually flat with no mountains, enabling dust and pollen, pollution from the industries and traffic fumes to spread far even to rural areas particularly as it is a small country. I then suggested why not get ourselves a quaint Swiss Chalet (or even an apartment) by the mountains as vacation cabin, even as investment too?

Sounds like a great plan but now to the practical side of things. All the paperwork and dealing with legal nitty gritties of a foreign country, not to mention tax and even probate, made us reconsider. Then we have the hassles of maintenance of course. And more so, housing is very expensive in Switzerland! In fact everything is expensive there. It is a very expensive country. So nah… maybe not a good idea. Besides better to have the freedom of being able to travel to different places and stay in hotels. Works out even cheaper right? And now…a little sketch I made about our discussion!

Once again, I sketched with my SAI Japanese Traditional Japanese Colors aquarelle markers. I love using them when traveling! You can use them as stand-alone markers or as watercolors using a wet brush. This time, I opted for the latter to see how it would all look. And I must say the Swiss Chalet turned out quite well! A black permanent marker like Staedler’s Pigment Liner is recommended for texts and the fine details. How fun and inspiring it is to be able to sketch during traveling! You even learn a bit about the country too.
