This time a bit of Flower Power from Switzerland! Can’t get over how pretty and colorful many of the flowers are up in the Swiss Mountains. Although the names of them have yet to be looked up, I couldn’t resist painting them!

Many of the references were from photos I had taken during our trip rather than on location. Just experimenting without resorting to initial pencil sketch so they are not that closely realistic. Rather it was more about the form and colors. And of course practice!

It does get slightly better as I sketch more and get accustomed to it. Plus I’m gaining more confidence as I go! I got that Portugal Art Retreat with Lisa Bardot to thank as that got me started with sketching flowers. Just work in shapes first then the details.

SAI Traditional Japanese Colors were used here once again as they were the watercolor pens I had brought with me to the trip. I like that they are so versatile as can be used as markers alone or blended with a wet brush. And sure enough, practice makes perfect, and I can’t wait to have the chance to paint more flowers when am back home!
