Line Drawing Cats: Digital

And now, my third and final installment of he Line Drawing unit from Juliette Crane‘s Whimsical Animals on-line classes! To recap, line drawing is about sketching without lifting your pencil. Sounds daunting, right? I thought it too but was amazed how interesting and cool they turned out during my first attempt using dry media which were charcoal and pastels. And so impressed I was I went for another one using gouache as wet media. As Juliette mentions, line drawing certainly stimulates creativity by pushing you beyond your comfort zone. And she’s right. So hooked that I am now trying it out on digital art just for fun!

And once I went on an on with the line drawing the cats with my Procreate pencil, I had a go with other animals too like dog, bunny and bear. Colors were then added later as I had done with my previous two practices. In addition to bright colors, I introduced patterns and textures for fun. Background firstly was switched to a light grey followed by spreading Hatch Jumble Opaque brush from Jason’s Expressive brushes set. Then I experimented with my newly-obtained Pearls and Animal Prints brushes and for the eyes Neon Tube from the Lights set then played around with the Blending Modes. And here concludes the fun line drawing exercise for animals! It was such a creatively-stimulating experience that I am tempted to go a step further and have a go with line drawing Little One as well. How is that for inspiration!
