Different Strokes

Little One was quite curious to see what she looks like in different hair and eye colors. And so she went onto an app and submitted a photo of herself to see the variations. What amazing results! Of course, we prefer the natural look in her brown hair and matching brown eyes, but she will aways be a cutie whether blonde. brunette or redhead! Accompanied with Little One was also her cat. Normally a white kitty, but today she also wanted to join in the fun and see what she looked like as a ginger and a black cat! Like Little One, of course, whatever color she is her cat will always be equally as kawaii. And I of course, wanted to paint about this because they are all so pretty!

For this painting, I took the opportunity to try out my newly-purchased A. Gallo Watercolors from Italy. Impressed with the gift set I had bought during the workshop there, I went and ordered a special 36-color set with all the bright shades. Combined that with Kuretake Gansai Tanbi from Japan for the pastel shades. Both sets are based from nature-derived pigments like minerals and plants to give out such color intensity and hence work well together. Small details were then drawn in with Faber Castell’s aquarelle pencils and white Uni Posca pens. As for which paper was painted on, I went for Strathmore’s cold-pressed watercolor sketchbook.

And for a closer look of each page:

Now aren’t they all lovely? I didn’t realize how adorable Little One can be with other hair or eye colors than brown! This exercise certainly broadened my horizons more by exploring something unexpected and different. And now I’m further inspired to create more kawaii characters. How exciting, Little One is making more friends!
