And here is the rest of my mini portraits we worked on at Tracy Verdugo‘s art retreat in Italy a few weeks ago! As outlined in my last blog, My Quirky Characters, we created our own quirky characters as a fun way to create portraits.
Head & Shoulders
We first just paint the busts on a large piece of paper or, in my case, a two page spread of our sketchbook. Then the fun part begins! Just randomly designing the hair, accessories and outfits with whatever art supplies we had at hand. Was a bit daunting at first, but my creative mind just kept flowing!

Work in Progress
But I wasn’t finished yet! I was hoping to complete my painting in time for the exhibition we were planning at the end of the retreat; It turned out we are not required to finish all and could still display our work as is and complete the rest at our own leisure when we get back home. Phew, no stress then! And this was my work-in-progress: So far so cute!

Completing at Home
Now that’s much better! To be honest, I was certainly glad to be able to continue this at home, especially with the art supplies I hadn’t brought with me to the retreat. These include texture mediums: Colored gel pens, 3D paint, markers, glitter glue and even a Hello Kitty sticker! Once again, the thoughts just kept flowing. Who would’ve imagined the many styles of Litfle One I could come up with!

And what fun that project was! I’d definitely like to repeat this in future especially when I’m stuck with ideas and need to stimulate my creative mind. Who knows what else I will discover! Plus I could try this out with animal characters as well. That would be cool! And now, which is your favorite quirky character?
