Italy Trip: Mountain Day

Up in the mountains today!  We weren’t expecting the weather to be so changeable this year with temperatures plummeting to the point of more snow on the peaks.  September is normally still warm, around 20°c and little risk of rain, and of course we were not prepared for that.  The only warm clothes I myself brought on this trip was a thin cotton hoodie and a light rain jacket.  A denim jacket as well but that’s not of much use for rainy days.  With a wet start to the morning, it was forecasted to clear up so my partner suggested we try driving to a village called Sölden which borders between Italy and Austria.  We’ll see how we get on with what outfits we have!  And up the cable car we road till around 2,500 meters, immediately feeling the chill.  Approaching lunchtime and the fact that we had two hours to kill because the cable operators were on a lunch break till 14:00, we decided to sit at a restaurant for some warm meal of goulash and dumplings.

We then had half an hour until the cable cars resume operating.  How about a brief walk around the area?  Path was all rocks and earth sprinkled with some snow.  Still safe to walk though, especially as we brought with us our walking sticks.  Whilst we eventually got accustomed to the cold, we didn’t want to walk too far up the mountain trail as it would get more chilly.  Took the next cable car down to where we parked the car and thought it would be a good idea to buy at least a wind proof jacket as we’re here for two more full days and want to explore the place more.  In the center of the village we came across a sports shop offering 25-40% end-of-season discount, and naturally we ended up with more than just wind-proof jackets!  That concluded our day out, and now time to return to the hotel with a hot amd relaxing sauna waiting for us…

(POST-SCRIPT: I have accidentally confused Sulden in Italy with Sölden which is in Austria. My apologies!)
