And as we approach the end of 2023 in a few hours, me and my partner would like to wish everyone a peaceful and prosperous New Year! Here I made another kawaii digital painting with Procreate and wanted to share here. Really getting into it!
Airbrush
I was going to recreate from the Christmas painting I had made the other day, but decided to start from scratch. Hence with the Medium airbrush, I went about drawing us, a separate layer assigned for each shape. For the hair, Wet Smudgy Pen was chosen as it gives out some interesting texture. Perfect ovals for the eyes were made possible by pressing the stylus down for auto-shape. Background first in cream, and this time I decided to have matching colors for our outfits! How about purple for a change? It symbolizes good fortune and wealth as it is apparently associated with royalty.

Lighten Up!
The next layer is about using the Lights brush available on Creative Market. The background was then switched to red as it symbolizes good fortune and wealth in China, typically a color used for New Years. For the whites of the eyes, I chose Neon Tube. Look how bright our eyes become! Same pen was then used for my string of pearls. I thought a little bow-tie would look cute on him so drew one with Foil Sketch Pen (Gold Rush set of brushes also from Creative Market). Not to forget the lashes, they were carefully added with Glitter Sketch Pen. And now how about something to join us together like a pretty heart? Here, I went for pink Foil Calligraphy before adjusting the Blending Mode to “Add” to bring in some red from the background. So far so pretty!

Gliteratti
And now, time to add the celebratory bling! The hats were firstly introduced, a crown for him and a party cone for myself. To enhance the glitter, I firstly painted the hats in yellow, then clipped masked the shapes before spreading a layer of gold Glitter Fill on top. Beautiful! And how about the background? First gold Glitter Dust was scattered on the bottom and the top corners. Then I incorporated some gold confetti with Confetti Fill which was clip masked and covered with the Glitter Fill. These brushes are all from the Gold Rush set as well. Finally, “Happy New Year!” was scribbled on with Neon Tube… et voilà!

Wow, what a happy and vivid piece I created! And how adorable we both look in the painting. I love that this gives out so much energy as well, positive vibes for that matter. Let’s now therefore pray that we all enter 2024 with such positivity and wish happiness, health and abundance for the years to come!
