Finally Together

Sorry again for being rather slack with blogging. I’ve got quite a lot to catch up on despite that I’m back to drawing regularly though not quite as often as I am hoping. A bit busy with work and personal matters but I’ll be back on track soon! Can’t wait…

Here is a quick sketch I made a few days after getting back from Tokyo a few weeks ago. Back with him after being away for 10 days so the first thing that came to mind when I saw him again. It’s also been a long while since doing some serious pencil “dessin” sketching. Always good to go back to it to keep up with the fundamentals of drawing.

What makes graphite pencil sketching important is being able to practice the basics of light and shade. Here, I used Caran d’Ache Graftwood graphite pencils which come in 15 levels of lead hardness and hence degrees of darkness.

Even with kawaii anime subjects, I like to demonstrate that it’s still possible to create something stunning without the use of colours but just monotone shades of grey and black. They do look as if they came out of an old black and white film! Looks dramatic yet still sweet. I should definitely go back to doing graphite sketches more often…
