Remember how much snow we had in the Netherlands last week? Most sadly gone now, but I have fond memories of it just gazing out the window, taking scenic walks outside, photographing and of course painting about it! And one of the snow hats I was walking outdoors with was this really cute Hello Kitty one. It is white and has ears in the front accompanied by a red ribbon. I’ve no idea where I had gotten it from but it is very cute! And as it sat on a hat stand to air out, an inspiration came to mind. How sweet that would look on Little One! And complete of course with the classic Hello Kitty outfit, the yellow shirt and blue overalls. So there I went about doodling it on my A4-size sketchbook. And so pleased with it that I had this desire to create a painting out of it!

But then again I loved the original sketch so much that I wanted to keep that as well! So I came up with a brilliant idea: Why not duplicate it? First I made a photocopy of it then grabbed a sheet of graphite transfer paper (available on Amazon) and carefully traced over the photocopied version on a blank page in my sketchbook. The advantage of graphite paper is that unlike carbon copy paper, it is less messy and mistakes can be easily erased. Once the duplicate was done, I then began filling in the colors with watersoluble oil pastels, Caran d’Ache Neocolor II. A simple piece this time, but I enjoyed the cuteness of it. Perhaps next, I might use this photocopied “blue print” and produce a sweet acrylic painting version of it followed by some digital art too!

And now, I think this Hello Kitty snow hat really suits Little One, don’t you agree?
