Getting in the Mood

Christmas is approaching and to be honest, I can’t get in the mood of it this year. Perhaps it is all the stress with traveling, the upcoming sale of my Tokyo apartment and the clearing out related to it which certainly takes an emotional toll. Plus there are quite a few tasks around the house my partner struggles to find time to complete that the living room is a mess. My energy is at an all-time low and although not depressed as such, I cannot get enthusiastic about the holidays. We haven’t even gotten ourselves a Christmas Tree yet! It was decided that we skip it this year as there is so much to do in the house. So how about distract myself from it and get creative with something kawaii? I sought solace with my iPad and Procreate app again, exploring more possibilities with the new texture brushes I had gotten recently. And this time, Little One helped get my energy revitalized because she’s so cute!

I chose a textured watercolor paper here, which was included in the Everything Watercolor brush set. “Recycled Butcher’s Paper”, it is called. The background was set to purple in the end. Although the basic painting was with my usual Medium Airbrush, a variety of texture brushes were experimented with from the Pattern Brushes for Procreate set for the background and Little One’s dress to make her look all pretty. The color of her dress, though, is not quite the bright pink I would normally go for, but I wanted to try something different and actually love the coral pink. A bit subdued, reflecting my state of mind perhaps? The eyes were drawn with Neon Pen (Lights set) and Gitter Pen (Gold Rush set). Whilst the festive mood has yet to emerge, completing this cute little painting was certainly a great start. And now, I really would love my mojo back. Only I can bring it on, though, so let’s keep the creative juices flowing!
