This time, a bit of a “let out steam” sketch. I’m due to fly to Tokyo today, and you should’ve seen the state I was in the past week! To be honest I’m not looking forward to my trip. Finally. getting around to selling the apartment there which my late mother left behind, first starting with a massive clear-out. Since I don’t plan to return to Japan to live again and that my life is now in Holland, it’s not practical handling two places especially as we get older. It won’t be easy though letting go because it was where I had grown up and stayed ages 5-15. The place mom and daòd were together until he left. Lots of memories. And now I need to go there next week and start clearing out. It’s going to be one emotional roller coaster…

Then came more added stress: My big box of Hello Kitty items from the U.S. has been stranded at Dutch Customs again! The import duties had already been paid, but why have they not released it yet? The last update stated “Import Scan” and that was a week ago! Trying to contact them proved futile. I know, First World problem, but I was expecting to receive it last Wednesday immediately after the fees had been settled. And just this afternoon finally came an inquiry by the Cusfoms asking me to provide more details which I immediately did. Well at least that’s a life sign, and the package is definitely not missing! But why did it take so long to get back to me? Although I’d be a bit more patient,, it looks quite doubtful if it arrives before my departure to Tokyo which is rather annoying …

And now I needed to express how I really felt! A mixture of anxiety, panic and frustration. Look at all the expressions I managed to draw! And jotting down my emotions and reactions certainly helped. Here on a two-page spread on my Strathmore sketchbook, I doodled away with my Ecoline Brush Pens which as you can see worked rather well. I’ve never used them for sketching and thought it would be a change from my usual Faber Castell Pitt Artists Pens Though the color range of the Ecoline Pens is not as wide as the Pitt Artists Pens, they do serve as good sketching markers for the purpose of my sketch. I’m glad I was able to illustrate my shattered emotions. Although my woes may not go away immediately, I can certainly deal with them better!
