Tuxedo Cat with Pink Flower

Another cute cat painting! I decided to repeat the Sketching with Paint unit of  Juliette Crane‘s Whimsical Animals classes because I felt I needed more practice before moving onto the next unit. In this unit, we learn to loosen up and involve white paint and pastels to add softness to our whimsical animals. Here goes!

Cat was first sketched on A3 paper with black charcoal stick in both stick and vine forms, then filled in. For the non-black areas , I used soft pastels. Then came the white paint carefully applied on with brush. I had been expecting the black to turn a bit grey and the solid colors to turn pastel shades anyway and hence went over them with charcoal and pastels again where needed. This time I chose to embellish the pink flower with glitter paint! And here are the supplies used:

I’m still not sure if the aim to “add softness with white paint and pastels” was adequately achieved, but I do love how my cat turned out!
