Kawaii Zen World

Greetings from Montelparo. Italy! Here I’m currently attending a week-long workshop with Australian abstract painter Tracy Verdugo. Such fun! It’s my second one with her, the first being back in pre-Covid 2020 in Siem Riep, Cambodia. Although still mixed media abstract and methods are similar to before, it’s interesting to see how both of us creatively evolved. The morning session was a warm-up and introduction, but in the afternoon, we made our own Zen World painting!

On a large piece of watercolor paper, we firstly “paint” some shapes with water and a large brush. Acrylic inks are then applied immediately with a dropper. Watch the color feather and create ripples! I decided to go for animal shapes. Antelope brown, pearlescent turquoise and yellow green make great combinations as does payne’s grey, fluorescent pink and lemon yellow. Although we were supposed to add fine details, I left mine as us as I loved the tri-color effect. Now that’s a Zen World to me!
