Continuing from my last blog entry, I am now sharing here the next painting from the White Turf event last winter! These are from the series from the White Turf horse event on snow back in February which I had sketched on Procreate and wrote about in White Turf 2025 Sketches. To recap, it is horse race event on snow that takes place every year in St. Moritz, Switzerland involving a variety of styles as illustrated below. What great way to practice drawing horses again and incorporating the “kawaii” elements by featuring Little One! And as promised, I colored them all in during my free time and in between my busy schedule, finally completing the set recently.

Here is the next piece, the horse and carriage, otherwise known as Trotting as I just discovered. Further research into this event, and the carriage is called a Sulky; light, open and operated by one horse and a single seat for only one person fixed on its shafts. Instead of moving with wheels, though, the cart slides on skis. The Sulky was invented in the early 19th century by an English physician and was supposedly named for his sulkiness in wishing to sit alone (source Britannica.com). But Little One here looks anything but! Like the other painting in the series, I tweaked the drawing a bit especially with the horse, and introduced snow and mountains in the background.

Quite pleased with how this one turned out. A bit of improvement with the light and shade compared to the last piece but still needing practice. I also did struggle a bit with getting the straps and harness as accurate as possible and went by my photographs. Not to worry, as the important thing is that it is cute and further, I enjoyed painting it! What makes working with Procreate so fun in this series of paintings is the various textures I got to play around with: snow, clouds, fur, etc. Look forward to showing my next and last sketch in this series!
