Still following the Whimsical Animals painting classes with Juliette Crane, but taking my time on the piece I’m currently working on. Soon to follow! Meanwhile, I thought I would share here a few of my digital paintings from a few months ago. These are the series from the White Turf horse event on snow back in February which I had sketched on Procreate and wrote about in White Turf 2025 Sketches. And what a fun challenge that was! It has been a while since drawing horses and I realized how rusty I was getting at. Great practice to return to it!

And as promised, I colored them all in during my free time. Here is my first piece, depicting the Skikjöring in which the participant is in skiis being dragged by the horse. Between them is a mast. Now, I did tweak the sketch a bit to make it more realistic looking and still not sure if the straps are correct as I merely went by the photographs from this event. Mountains were introduced in the background, and how handy that Procreate also has a brush for snow! I did my best shot at light and shade and need to practice more. To further enhance the kawaii, though, Little One is featured and so is Hello Kitty! Makes it more the fun to paint.

This first attempt at coloring in my White Turf sketches took some time to make it to my liking. The other paintings that followed became a bit easier as I got more accustomed to it. Sometimes I needed to change the sketches a bit to make it more suitable to color in. Look forward to sharing here my next painting in the series so watch this space!
