Sharing here another painting whilst following Alena Hennessy’s Watercolor Wonder! Sadly the last unit, and as the name speaks for itself, the purpose of Finale, is to gather all what we had picked up during the past eight units and to develop our own creation. Painting abstract art using watercolor is the main theme of this course, and hence a cool-looking abstract with a kawaii flair it was for me! And how could I not include Little One in the painting? Can you find her?

Here, I used Canson’s A3 Watercolor paper (300gsm). It starts with painting random circular shapes and curves around the paper first with some lighter then darker colors. I honestly cannot remember the exact sequence of the movements, as I was working in a constant flow and using random colors here and there. Important thing is that I kept going! Eventually I knew I was done but was not sure what to do with some of the open spaces, but instead of adding more paint, I took my Uni Posca markers and drew a big tulip in dark grey and Little One in white. What inspired me to do that, I have no idea. Perhaps it is tulip season in the Netherlands? But I think amidst all the color chaos, just one tulip was enough, along with a small image of Little One to keep it company…
And here are the art supplies used:

Mostly selected are the Kuretake Gansai Tanbi range, including the metallic, fluorescent and pearlescent sets, followed by Kremer Pigmente and Jane Davenport’s. I also experimented a bit with Holbein’s granulating watercolors in pink. As for the drawings, Uni Posca and white gel pens were used. Such a wide variety of watercolors to make this painting so interesting! I thoroughly enjoyed working with Alena, as I got to learn quite a bit about abstract painting with watercolor, an unlikely combination but works very well together as I discovered! Look forward to creating more in future..
