Flowers and Butterflies

After the fun but intensive Watercolor Wonder classes with Alena Hennessy, I thought I’d give my paintbrushes a rest and try something totally different!  That last unit, Four Muses, involved painting portraits, five of them in fact (four plus a bonus one) of Little One in different themes. And of course she enjoyed being my model and muse, but she was exhausted! “It was so much fun dressing up and sitting for this exciting class though”, she mused. So let’s give her a break for a few days. And now, I too needed a break but was still in a creative mood. Next to me lay an old sheet of A4 paper which I use as a palette for my paintings. Colorful isn’t it? And too beautiful to toss out.

So why not recreate with what I have already? First thing that came to mind was a flower theme, seeing it is now Spring! I began by gluing on a bit of wrapping paper featuring the blue pansy. Areas I didn’t like got covered up with colored wrapping tissues. Then other collage papers followed, specifically those with flowers or butterflies on them: Paper napkins, more wrapping paper, origami paper and craft punch cut-outs, just working on layers. In between I went for a variety of rubber stamps featuring flowers too. No more paint brushes or pens. Just odd bits of paper or imprints. Kept going and going until I was happy…

And happy I was! So is the artwork. A very happy “Spring is coming” piece with lots of positive vibes. Loving the energy it gives out. Looks like I needed a little break from the intensive painting classes, and this session certainly helped refresh my own mind and boost my creative mojo. Now I can look forward to my next ventures!
