Back again! What a busy week it’s been. Managing, however, to find some time to paint, but unfortunately not enough to write about my artwork . Nevertheless, I am happy to share here about another portrait I made of Little One! This is part of Alena Hennessy’s Watercolor Wonder lessons I have been following, more specifically the Four Muses unit as outlined in the first part. I did complete the fourth and final one but that didn’t turn out as I had wanted as was hoping to have it more closely resemble Alena’s painting (see previous blog). Yet I decided to continue working on it, do something different and actually liked the final result, thus considering it my fourth! But I don’t give up that easily: I was determined to try again so I can practice more. And here is my fifth muse!

It was more specifically the leaves and flowers I wanted to work on, as well as the puffy dress and long earrings. Just to experiement and explore outside my own comfort zone. Again, though, I created my own variation. Alena, as I recall, had her muse with her hair in a bun and with leaves dangling on the side of the head. I decided to ditch the hair bun altogether and get mine wearing a gold crown instead! Then the leaves will spill out of the crown, and she’d have some flowers in her hair too. Never worked with earrings before but they did come out fine, as I lined them in gold and filled in with pearlescent white. Although the intended puffy pink dress didn’t result accordingly, it still makes an interesting foreground with its feathered out effect. And I am pleased with the composition and color scheme as well as making Little One look cute!
Here are the art supplies used:

As you can see, once again, a variety of watercolor brands. A few sets, for example, from Kremer’s Pigmente in Skin Tones, Pearlescent and Earth Colors. For brighter shades, I went for Gansai Kuretake Tambi, Derwent Pastel shades and Jane Davenport’s pans. And for finishing touches Uni Posca paint markers and glitter gel pens were used. And what fun it was working with all the different watercolors and creating something different from what I’m used to. I also enjoyed following Alena’s classes and look forward to her next unit! Now how regal yet cute does Little One look in a crown surrounded by beautiful flowers and leaves?
