Four Muses: Part One

So I’m still continuing Alena Henessy’s on-line classes, Watercolor Wonder, and loving it! A great way to explore beyond my comfort zone as it is not often I get to paint abstract art with watercolor. For this unit, Four Muses, though, we are focusing on portraits, an area I definitely need to work on. What a perfect opportunity this was! The first muse involves practicing with a pencil sketch followed by watercolor. And who will be my muse? Little One of course!

An A4 sheet of Canson’s Watercolor paper was used here, along with a pan of Kremer’s Pigmente watercolors for Skin Tones. This lesson was the ultimate test for these watercolors as we work on portraits, and I am very pleased with the quality. Although Alena went for a more whimsical approach with the proper nose and lips, I chose the anime chibi look which works just as well. And here is my first practice at watercolor portraits. Not looking too bad, even rather cute I must say!
