Sweet Happy Spring

It is now March, and Spring is here shortly! So good-bye to cold dark winters. Before you know it, our clocks will go forward to Summer Time and the days will get longer. And now I will really be in the mood for more bright vivid flowery paintings. And here is one coming up, a mixed media abstract piece I created a few days ago featuring LIttle One of course, and Hello Kitty too!

The Start

Well what do you know, it all began even during the middle of January and hence still in the middle of winter! Random bits of paper were collaged together in my sketchbook: pink wrapping tissue, paper napkins and Japanese newspaper, resulting in a rather Spring theme. I must have been bored or just needed some inspiration to start from, and it looks as though I were subconsciously craving for warmer weather: Those green leaves and the Sakura cherry-blossom pink are no coincidence! And as I got busy, this page got completely forgotten until I came back from my ski trip a few weeks ago and wanted to sketch but realized this page needed to be completed. Well now that we are in March now, why not resume it and make it a full-on Spring theme with happiness, cuteness and lots of pretty flowers?

Layers and Layers…

I worked on this painting with so much enthusiasm and joy, taking me a few days to complete. Kept working on it till I was happy with it and I am! First came the blocks of bright colors using acrylic inks namely in greens and violet, some pearlescent as well. I then glued bits of collage papers again, many of which are from old wrapping papers, paper napkins and even some heart-shaped confetti! Some craft-punched origami paper were also introduced. As for Hello Kitty, I went for a tag attached to one of her merchandise. Little One was drawn with a marker. Any areas I didn’t like were covered with more collage paper, and to add some more character to the painting, I used stencils and stamps. Finally for some more texture, Glitter Gel was scattered around.

And indeed after days of working on this painting, tweaking and adjusting, I am very happy with it! Love all that chaos which yet comes with abundance and lots of positive vibes. And so much energy too! After this dark dreary weather, we could all do with some. Let’s also not forget the cuteness which is further enhanced with Little One and Hello Kitty. What a kawaii combo they make! I definitely want to create more of such similar paintings like this: Sweet and happy!

And for a close up of each page:

Below are the art supplies used for this painting, apart from the collage papers. I did however forget to photograph the rubber stamps and accompanying Ink which was fluorescent orange from Neon by Radiant. Aren’t they beautiful, these vibrant colors? Feeling like Spring already!
