Gong Hei Fat Choy! Last Wednesday 29 January marked the start of the Chinese New Year. It’s now the Year of the Snake, according to the Lunar calendar, which like all the 12 animal zodiacs revolves around a 12-year cycle. A busy week it has been though since returning from Japan and again unfortunately I have not been able to properly follow the traditions such as cleaning the house and space clearing with sage before the New Year so I am praying we will not have any bad luck this year! Decorating the house with few of my snake charms for protection and luck have yet to be completed. On top of that, we’re off on our ski break the whole of this week so nothing further can be done. Now really pray I won’t be cursed haha!

I try not to stress about this though. Whilst the start of CNY was a few days ago, it is still celebrated for 15 days, till 12 February. I will be back before that date so hopefully I still have the chance to celebrate properly. Meanwhile a little painting depicting CNY may be a good start. So how about some digital art? A fun and festive drawing to mark the Year of the Snake. Was initially a challenge to sketch a coiled-up snake but as you know, I enjoy working beyond my comfort zone. And once done, the background was switched to red before spreading some gold glitter from the Gold Rush brush set. Then the writing including the Chinese character for snake (蛇) and we are good to go. And now, Happy Lunar New Year to you all, and praying for a prosperous and healthy Year of the Snake!
