Oops, I nearly forgot! Today is my late-mother’s birthday, and thankfully that I never forget. I merely forgot to do a birthday painting for her! Every year I dedicate one for her but this time, I got so busy and distracted with daily life that it only occurred to me upon waking up yesterday morning that I need to do this! No stress. Rather than beat myself up over it, I got down to business and spent a few hours on my Procreate app to whip something up.
Drawing with Crayons
I know my mother in Heaven will not be upset with me and realizes I too have a life to live. It’s only a painting of course, and at least I didn’t forget her birthday! That said, I could not live with myself knowing I have forgotten . And here it is, first sketching with some crayon brushes with the FTOON set (from Creative Market). Crayons do give me the “happy childhood” vibes, a perfect choice for this occasion.

Glitter and Gold
I switched the background colour to a creamy tone, followed by some texture stamps and Overlay light mode. Then the background with some gold glitter and sparkles from the Gold Rush set. I wanted to make the drawing celebratory whilst retaining the kawaii element from the crayon drawing. Besides, Mama is not the bling type and hence I kept the background colour as subtle as possible. And here we have it!

Hope you like this painting, Mama! If only you had known how much I still enjoy being creative. I would definitely paint endlessly and show you my work. And you would reply “Kawaii!”. I remember you kept a lot of my paintings too from my childhood. Well, a Happy Birthday to you , Mama. Thank you for watching over me from Heaven. I miss you so much!
