France Trip: Shopping Day

And another road trip to France!  A few months ago we traveled to the Provence region in the Southeast, and now we’re in the Southwest near the Pyrenees mountains bordering Spain.  This time, we have also booked, in a small farming village called Ganties, an apartment owned and run by my partner’s friend from school.  What a place it is too, overlooking the mountains and two-story with bedrooms downstairs and kitchen and lounge upstairs.  Despite the unusually hot and humid weather, we are loving our break so far.  And it’s day 2.  What were we up to?  Well, as it’s my first time, and for my partner the second time since 2005, we just drove around bit but made it a point to drop by a flea market in Saint Girones this morning.

And I love Flea Markets in France!  Been to quite a few of them in the past, and the stuff you find is amazing.  Food and ingredients from many parts of the world (lunch was Vietnamese spring rolls) and also quite a few kawaii items like handmade stuffed toys in cactus forms, paintings of cats, lots of cute art and baby pram baskets.  I ended up buying three of the stuffed cactus and two pairs each of shorts and dresses!  After a leisurely browse around, we continued driving, briefly stopping by a castle-turned hotel before going off to the supermarket.  My partner is going to cook tonight!  How sweet of him.  Supermarket was then followed by the local boulangerie on the way back to our apartment for baguette and tarts which we enjoyed with our late afternoon coffee.  And now, as he’s cooking, I look forward to our dinner… it’s going to be spaghetti bolognese!
