My last sketch about this trip. Thoroughly enjoyed our week in France, and now time to go home! On the way back, we had an overnight stay in the Dolomites in Italy since the other routes for returning to the Netherlands were suffering from bad weather. And of course also because we love the scenic view of this mountain range! The next morning, we departed for a scenic drive up and down and along the Dolomites, starting with the Passo Pordoi, followed by the Passo Sella. There we were quite lucky with the weather and were able to admire the stunning views. Then it was time to cross the border into Austria to the Timmelsjoch where we came across some snow in the mountains, wnd wow! How cool to come across that in mid-June!

We continued driving across Austria into Germany but it started to rain. Got progressively worse with slow traffic but we really had not much choice. Weather has been bad in neighboring areas anyways so choosing another route would not have made much difference. Scheduled arrival time back home was 4am but by the time we arrived in Germany, the roads were miraculously quiet perhaps because it was a Saturday night. Plus with our super-fast Toyota Supra and the autobahn lacking speed limits on most parts of the country, we were able to win some time. Made it back home safely at 2 am… a total of about 1000 kilometers and nine hours on the road! What an amazing one week that was. And with that come a lot of wonderful memories and lots of inspiration for my paintings…can’t wait to get started!
