Adventures in Provence

Another sketch about our holidays coming up! Today sharing our day out in Provence, first starting with a drive towards the lavender fields in Valensole. So lucky this year to have made it during full bloom as June is normally considered a bit too early. And such a stunning scenery that was with all the violet! I must definitely paint about it. Then, as opposed to trying the tourist traps and retailers in town. we bought some lavender items directly from the owners of the field. Angelvin Lavender is greatly recommended. We have been to the area and this shop a few times in the past and are very much impressed with the quality stuff they have such as fresh lavender sachets, soap, essential oil, creams and lotions. And good quality pure lavender is wonderful in the home with its amazing aroma and for deterring insects. They make great gifts too for family and friends. Even my partner approves!

Then by lunchtime we drove further to check out some Provencial areas recommended by my partner’s mother. The first was the Abbey of Notre Dame Sénanque. Alas too busy. Not only was parking hell and was swarming with tourists like us, but it was so hot that by the time we got there we couldn’t be bothered to go in. Next was another hour’s drive to Roussillon, a quaint village set above a bunch of ochre-colored rocks. Again, jam packed! It’s even neither a weekend nor are schools out yet so imagine what it’s like in the summer. So busy was the place that we sadly didn’t even get out of the car and just drove through. Made a note of them for the next time, though, when we travel in this area again! Best to be there of course early in the morning. And back to the hotel we drove, passing some more lavender fields and one green field with a flock of little lambs and a couple of baby goats. Something to paint about too!💕
