During my two and half week trip to Japan last month, I was so busy that I had zero time to get creative although I did bring with me my sketchbook and pens. A pity but then again it was wonderful to see friends and family and enjoy my native land I hadn’t visited for four years. It was not until my flight back to Amsterdam I could put my feet up, relax and paint again. Luckily I had my new iPad with me in the aircraft so I could draw away on the Procreate App!
Me First!
So here I am, all happy and relaxed trying to look glam and groomed as I had just spent a few weeks in the big city. Blue background since the weather has been cold but impeccably sunny everyday. Medium Airbrush was used here with the hair being touched up with the Flowing Hair brush. Whilst I managed to get the eyes symmetrical by duplicating and flipping vertically, the lashes were added later with the Glitter Pen available in the Gold Rush set from Creative Market. So far so kawaii!

Hello Kitty Faces
One of the many things I did whilst in Japan was lots of shopping too! Clothes that actually fit me especially lengthwise, stationery, art supplies, Japanese snacks and condiments, and of course lots of Hello Kitty merchandise! So why not paint about that? With the Wax Stick and Grainy Sketch brushes from the FT Crayon brushes (also from Creative Market), I set about drawing my Hello Kitty face, shrinking it by size and duplicating it all over the page. I do like what I see so far but why don’t we add more?

Multiplying Hello Kitty
And now I have ten Hello Kitty faces scattered around! Time to work on the background too. I didn’t want to make it too elaborate as it would distract from the Hello Kitty’s and make it too busy so I merely introduced some stamps (with Screen lightening mode), Leafy Green and dots just to give some texture. As finishing touches, I randomly incorporated some small hearts with red Glitter pen. Et voilà!

Just a fun warm-up to getting creative again! Besides that, it was a great way to reintroduce myself to the Procreate brushes too as it has been a few weeks. Painting Little One (as me) and another of my favorite character, Hello Kitty, made it all the more enjoyable as well! Once I have all my goodies from Japan tidied up and put away, I intend to keep up more with painting and start experimenting with some of the new art supplies bought there. Can’t wait till I am more settled!
