Little One is dressing up as Santa today! A huge Hello Kitty fan, she created her own glittery hat with a cute Hello Kitty on top, surrounding herself with this adorable feline character. She’s off visiting some friends, also fellow fans, to bring a huge present… featuring Hello Kitty of course! I wonder what lucky goodies she got for them. And now: Following the success of my previous Hello Kitty artwork, Tagging Hello Kitty, I now created a Christmas version! A mixed media painting incorporating some themed labels and tags my Hello Kitty purchases come in, as they are just too cute to throw away. And here goes…
The Background
First, I mounted the edges of a sheet of A3 Canson’s Watercolor paper (300gsm) with masking tape to avoid it warping. Water was then applied with a wide brush and whilst wet, a selection of green acrylic ink was spread across it. Yellow-green and Permanent green by Sennelier and a pearlescent green by Daler and Rowney. First with a dropper followed by a brisk brush across the paper. How pretty is that!

Glueing Them Down
Once the background was dry, I set about gluing down a few chosen labels, some of which I also cut out to suit the painting. A round circle from some white paper was also glued down for the face of my character, Little One. Not wanting to lose the entire stunning green background, I thought a bit of negative space painting would be a good idea. See how some Christmas trees were formed with some Teal Fluid Acrylic by Golden! So happy with that that I further drew with pencil some hollies and more trees to show this beautiful green. Then the face was painted with a blend of Titan Buff and Quinacridone Azo Nickel Gold. Looks quite promising!

Developing Little One
And now it’s all coming together! The negative space painting was a brilliant idea as we see. For that blue layer, I combined Titan Buff with the Teal to create a more winter shade. And the Naphthol Red Light also by Golden Fluid Acrylic is perfect for Christmas! The hair and eyes were firstly drawn in with brown Molotow acrylic marker, followed by a brush of Sepia acrylic ink by Sennelier, along with the whites of the eyes with ARA’s matte white paint. That white paint was also used to play down the pink surrounding the house to make it more in line with the Christmas theme. Now we’re talking!

Finishing Touches
And now we’re almost done! Unfortunately, I was unable to get rid of the pink surrounding the house without the risk of accidently touching it. How about then slightly spreading out that pink by combining some light pink paint (Amsterdam Acrylic) with white and incorporating it in background with an old bubble wrap? That worked rather well now! The rim of the hat and the collar was then filled in with dabs of white paint. And of course we can’t do without enough sparkle here! The lashes and the sleeves were firstly lined with Stickles glitter glue. Then some red Izink glitter paint was spread with a small palette knife on the hat with a bit on the dress. Finally, a trace of green Stickles glitter gel on the path. What a cute little painting this turned out to be!

Once again, another fun mixed media painting with Little One! Even cuter with Hello Kitty featured of course. And hat great use of the labels and tags it made as well! Now Little One is very much looking forward to visiting her friends for that Christmas Party and hopes they will like her big present. I am sure they will. And now, a Merry Christmas from all of us!
