Winter Garden

Although we maintain our garden as best as we could, we also get our gardeners to come over twice a year (late autumn and early spring) for the heavier stuff: Pruning, trimming branches, replanting and tidying up areas we cannot reach. Both are back and front garden are now done, and they certainly look as if they’ve just come back from the hairdressers! What perfect timing then, for this abstract floral painting I was experimenting with the other day!

I was merely having a play around with some metallic and pearlescent watercolors by Finetec and Kremer Pigments, both from Germany. Apparently being most effective on black paper, a wonderfully thick 360 gsm sheet from Rembrandt Royal Talens pad was selected for this. And, wow, amazing how the colors pop out! I shall definitely be keeping this in mind and churning out more paintings using metallic/pearlescent colors on black paper.
