Little One has just come back from the hairdressers! Thoroughly enjoying the cut and blow dry experience, she was pleasantly surprised to discover how voluminous her new hairstyle turned out. “Oh my goodness,” she beamed, “Big hair for a little girl like me! But I love it”. The hairdresser was so chuffed to see how excited Little One looked that she was more than happy to give her some tips on styling. Once she arrived home, she donned on her orange tiara and decided to be Princess of Good Mood for the day. How sweet is that! And how about of cute drawing about this?
The Beginning
I thought it would be fun to try this with digital painting on Procreate. A square canvas was chosen on which I went for a beige background with the intention of drawing with pastels and chalk later. First, though, textures were introduced before sketching my character, Little One. Electricity 2 from the Lights brush set (available on Creative Market) seemed a great choice to give the surface a crumpled paper look, enhanced further with Color Burn light mode. And then I was ready to sketch Little One with Procreate Pencil! Isn’t she looking so sweet?

The Painting
This time, I wanted to make this a simple painting. All I did was fill in the color with a variety of vivid shades with Natural Sketcher 1 from Jason’s Dry Media brush set (available also on Creative Market) . Though not necessary in the end as it turned out, a different layer was used for each shape and color. This could come in handy if in future I wish to alter or add anything, i.e., color or medium. For now, though, I chose to leave as is. Et voilà!

I am very happy how this painting turned out! Quick and simple this time. Yet powerful. Using dry media like Sketcher 1, as a substitute for soft pastel or crayon, has indeed contributed to the intense appearance making Little One really pop out. It’s not a medium I use often, and I’ll certainly be choosing this medium again in future. Meanwhile isn’t Little One lookimg gorgeous and adorable in her new kawaii hairdo?
