Yes indeed summer is definitely over, but another type of “summer time” is coming to an end this year. In a few hours at 2 am, clocks will go backwards in Europe! Such is known as Summer Time becomes Winter Time here, otherwise known as Daylight Savings in the U.S. Not a great sign because that means it will start getting darker even earlier, and the mornings will remain pitch black till about 8 am. How depressing. Bad enough that we are already getting less daylight in the first place, isn’t it? On the positive side, though, we get an extra hour’s sleep tonight! No more complaining then. And now, as I began practicing abstract art with watercolors whilst following Alena Hennessy “Watercolor Wonders” online class, I found the perfect painting to reflect the end of Summer Time!

First lesson is merely warm-up during which I produced a few paintings, including this one, to get myself accustomed. A wash of various vivid colors firstly in the background by just letting our thoughts flow. Then once dry, we “doodle” a bit with a thin brush or a Uni Posca marker. I myself finished off with some blue glitter glue. Can’t resist the bling! Look how the background portrays sunset, the time when the sun disappears, symbolizing waning daylight. Once winter arrives, the flowers will disappear too. And now the flying birds in the background was quite incidental. The metaphor is quite interesting, as it implies birds migrating south as winter approaches. What a symbolic painting to end Summer Time! And I’m loving the lessons so far too. Can’t wait to share more here!
