Halloween is coming up shortly! Every year, I make the effort to paint about this spooky holiday when I have the chance. Not just one painting but a few of them, possibly at least one each in digital painting and in analog mixed media. Procreate app gives one a great opportunity to play around with different effects. This year, I went for a black cat! Just for fun, how about a black cat all dressed up? As a princess perhaps?
The Beginning
First comes painting the basics. As usual, a different layer was assigned for each color block and shape, something that comes handy when you want to change any part individually. I used Procreate Medium Airbrush here, with an orange background.

Incorporating Texture and Details
As you can see, I was trying out a few light and shine brushes which I got from the Creative Market as add-ons and also experimented with the Light Modes. Neon for the eyes and ears, and glitter for the whisker and costume, the latter which I switched from white to black so the gold dusty glitter would pop out more. And the crown, wow! The foil brush from the Gold Rush set is amazing! And so are the Flare lights on the crown. Fur brush was then introduced on the purple collar.

Background
Before working on the background, I made some changes to our cat. The Neon Tube on the ears was too overwhelming and hence replaced by a neon Star Trail to match the bottom fringes of the costume. Much better now! I then decided to make the background simple with no added bling as I wanted the cat to stand out more. A few brushes from the Magical Textures set (also from Creative Market) were selected along with the appropriate Light Mode where needed. Finally, the mysteriously misty effect was achieved by a light touch of one of the texture stamps. Et voilà!

As much as I don’t celebrate it as the Americans do, I love Halloween because it is another excuse to play with my Procreate app! So much fun it was again, as the possibilities are endless. I’m quite happy with how my cat turned out, spooky but also cute. Maybe too cute to be even spooky! The added bling of course is also a bonus. And now, here is my Princess Halloween Cat!
