Washing Machine Broken!

Oh no! Our washing machine packed in more than a week ago. What a pity. It was a Siemens one with its trademark Senso Fresh feature. That’s right, the one with the steam function to freshen your clothes without having to wash them and also smoothes out the creases. We loved it! For 6 or 7 years it lasted, which is actually not that long. I remember my late mom having hers for a good 20 years. Happened two weeks ago when we were taken aback as the fuse suddenly went off. First we thought it was our built-in microwave oven. Unplugged it and put the fuse back on. Pop it went again! Then I realized we had the washing machine running at the same time which suddenly went dead. Fuse back on, machine runs but boom, dead. We called the local repairman and alas, we were told it’s completely kapot. Electronics packed in, we were told. Time to get a new one then! Ordered an AEG with a similar steaming feature, as Siemens Senso Fresh has sadly been discontinued. Takes a week for delivery and installation so here we are sitting on a pile of dirty laundry. Awww that sucks, but surprisingly we are taking it pretty well.

It’s no biggie, really. First world problems! We’re just grateful we got enough to wear and that washing our dirty laundry can wait. Plus it gives us the opportunity to clear out our utility room! Since moving in four years ago, we just threw all our “junk” into boxes and left them on the shelves to deal with later. Of course life goes on, and you forget. Now is the time to start a major clear out then! We firstly came to the idea of relocating our extra freezer (which was next to the old washing machine) into the garage to free up some space. Good start. Clear out aside, it further gave me some inspiration to create something kawaii in my sketchbook! Started with colored markers (Faber Castel Pitt Artists’ Pens), then colored in the hair and face with water soluble pastels (Derwent’s Inktense and Caran d’Ache Neocolor II) with eyes lined with colored pencil and finally a wash of two shades of green Ecover Ink. And tomorrow, our new washing machine will arrive! Fingers crossed it all works out well…
