And time for another lake tour. First we had Weissensee in Austria, and now we have Lago di Braies on Italy! Just 5 hours or so apart by car. We’ve been here for three full days already, enjoying the challenge of hiking up and down mountains and around the beautiful lake. Although I’m quite fit as I work out 4-5 per week, even I myself found the climbing quite grueling! More so for my partner as he’s less accustomed to getting fit. First day we walked 10km, then 15km the following day and today 10km. Altogether at least 5 hours if we also count short rests and lunch. He loved it, though, so much that I think we’ve both discovered a new hobby we can both enjoy!

Only thing is that we need to get ourselves some walking poles and bring them along the next time we do a long hike. They do come handy for climbing up rocky hills and descending without losing your balance. And now some kawaii art-journaling to summarize the past three days… of the things we noticed was how vividly blue/green the lake was, almost turquoise I should say! And the mountains, part of the Dolomites range, are quite rocky and formed by bits of triangles piled on top of each other. As for the crowds, the further away our go from the lake the quieter. The bus loads of daytime folks are mainly here for the lake, as opposed to the serious and hard-core hikers who choose more challenging paths with their appropriate gear and of course walking poles!

And there were lots of dog owners! Really cute dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds led by keen walkers. Everything was fine these past three days. Then on our last day today, my partner wanted to play with his drone to video the bird’s eye view of the lake and mountains… which alas ended in tragedy. The drone didn’t make it back! Instead, we believe, it ran into the branches of one of the trees up in the mountains and got stuck there never to return. Such a pity as the drone itself doesn’t come cheap. Even worse, though, is also losing the attached SIM card in which the videos are stored. That can never be replaced! But let’s not fret too much. Our wonderful memories about this trip will always stay with us!
