Time to go home! That was two nights ago, and we’re already back now, all safe and sound. What an action-packed day it was though! Boyfriend decided it would be a good idea to enjoy driving his Supra up, down and around the Swiss Alps during the day to enjoy the views before heading back to the Netherlands in the evening, aiming to arrive home late at night. And what a wonderful opportunity to make a cute sketch about this adventurous journey back home!
Morning Panic
After breakfast, we were checking out the hotel during which I came across two small piles of rocks and a shaker of herbal salts to take home as souvenirs. Paid for them and took off, only to realize half-hour or so later I had forgotten to take them with me! “Oh no”, I panicked but tried not to panic too much. Boyfriend was initially not amused of course but whilst driving back to the hotel calmed down a bit and eventually forgave me for the inconvenience. Plus the stuff was there luckily. Once I fetched them, we continued driving, appreciating the fact that the double trip meant being able to once again enjoy the breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps!

Afternoon Surprise
We continued enjoying the exciting drive on the sports car along the long and winding roads. The mountain views were as beautiful as the lakes. Then boyfriend surprised me by taking another route: By Interlaken and onto viewing Jungfrau Joch, Europe’s highest train station. I had told him previously how I and my late mother travelled to Europe in the early 80s (I was just a teenager) and visited these places so this surprise really meant a lot to me, bringing tears to my eyes. How sweet of him!

Evening Bad Weather Ahead
After quick spaghetti dinner nearby, though, we noticed how humid it was becoming. Bad weather was expected but not until very late so this earlier warning came as a surprise. We drove as fast as we could whilst it was safe to do so despite noticing lightening bolts in the sky at a far distance. Traffic was also worsening by the time we reached Germany, and it began pouring heavily. Although we were hoping to get home by midnight, our car navigation indicated severe delays and ETA to be 3am! So we decided to find a place to park so we could sleep in the car for a few hours, eventually settling for a trucker’s rest area. Upon waking we continued driving and finally reached home at 6am! Wow. Home at last.

And yes indeed an action-packed journey back home! But we arrived safely and now look back on the adventure of ups and downs as great memories. Besides, it gave me the chance to practice doodling on my sketchbook intuitively and “as it is”, whatever came to mind, without having to plan my drawing. That’s the fun part of getting creative. Now I can get further inspired and can even develop some of these ideas into a painting! And I wonder what i can start with…
