Supra Road Trip: Hiking and the Ice Cave

Full day today at our destination, the Grimsel Pass in Switzerland where we stay two nights. Leaving tomorrow sadly. And what an action-packed day was! In the morning we went on a little hike up in the mountains near our hotel. Wonderful hotel too, as we chose one with a huge terrace overlooking Totensee, one of the many lakes in the Swiss Alps. So what have we been up to?

Morning

Although I’m reasonably fit as I work out a lot, my partner has been advised by doctors to exercise more for weight management and to improve his cardio vascular condition. Well I have to say he did very well today! Although he did struggle to keep up with me from time to time, I made sure he was alright and asked him to make me stop or slow down if necessary, And n just over two hours including stops, we managed 2.7 km and reached 2,285 m! The thought of trying another hike, but no climbing, was tempting but it was noontime. Not a smart move with the strong sun, though it was a comfortable 21°C today.

Afternoon

And so we hopped into the car and decided to cruise around the long windy mountain roads to Furkapass and ended up neat the Rhône Glacier where we were free to wander around and check out the basin, mini waterfalls and accompanying ice cave or glacier grotto. The cave itself was quite impressive as we entered into a permanent structure of gigantic blocks of ice around us. It also made me quite sad, though, to see how climate change has melted much of the glaciers. Certainly brings forth awareness about the adverse effects of global warming, doesn’t it? On the brighter side, the we walk was quite rocky and required quite a lot of climbing which was another chance to get even fitter! Just over an hour of walking it was, including occasional stops to photograph. And then we drove back to the hotel through the long windy mountain roads…

So another kawaii art journaling on my mini sketchbook, outlining the day’s events! I’ve had very little time lately to get creative as been once again busy with our home improvements. Just grabbing a black marker or pencil and sketchbook is a great way to keep up with creativity. Also provides inspirations for my next paintings, doesn’t it? I shall definitely get into the habit of this, especially when traveling!
